Job Summary: Join Lafayette Urban Ministry as our Senior HR Generalist and play a pivotal role in shaping our organization’s culture and success! In this dynamic, hands-on position, you’ll lead the development and implementation of HR policies and programs, ensure compliance with employment laws, and serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and staff. You’ll oversee the full employee lifecycle—from recruitment and onboarding to performance management and offboarding—while supporting professional growth and fostering a positive workplace environment. Key Responsibilities:

  • Create, implement, and enforce human resource policies, programs, and procedures for the organization.
  • Serve as advisor to the Executive Director and all managers/supervisors regarding employment law and organizational implications of company issues, challenges and procedures, protocol, and present solutions.
  • Oversee the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, employee relations, and offboarding.
  • Deliver training to and advise managers and employees on HR policies, compliance, performance management, conflict resolution, and professional development.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Finance Director to develop an annual compensation strategy and budget.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records.
  • Manage processes for time tracking, employee absences, and paid time off
  • Manage administration of Human Resources Information System
  • Manage employee benefits administration
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Manage and handle employee relations issues as appropriate, provide employee mediation and handle issues as appropriate, provide employee mediation/counseling sessions, and escalate issues to legal counsel as needed.

Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate for the Senior HR Generalist position at Lafayette Urban Ministry is a proactive and compassionate HR professional with a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and at least five to eight years of progressive HR experience. They possess deep knowledge of employment law and HR best practices, along with exceptional communication, coaching, and conflict resolution skills. This individual is highly organized, adaptable, and able to make sound decisions independently while building strong relationships across all levels of the organization. Certified in HR (such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR), they bring a strategic mindset and a genuine passion for supporting both employees and the mission of our organization. It is essential to have a strong faith dynamic as expressed by a willingness to accept and support the LUM Mission Statement, and a commitment to supporting the self-determination of the poor.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $865.00 per week

Expected hours: 28 per week
